Write properties of conductor by Fast2study

PROPERTIES OF CONDUCTOR

PROPERTIES OF CONDUCTOR
  • The charge density inside the conductor is zero.
  • An electrical conductor is an electric charge carrier.  Conductivity is the ability to transmit electricity or heat. Good conductors are copper, gold, steel, aluminium, brass etc.
  • The flow of electrons in a conductor is known as the electric current. The force that is required to make that current flow through the conductor is known as voltage.
  • Conductors are materials which contains large number of free electrons which can move freely inside the conductor therefore net electric field inside a conductor in electrostatic condition is zero.
  • In electrostatics conductors are always equipotential
  • surfaces.
  • Charge always resides on outer surface of conductor.
  • If there is a cavity inside the conductor having no charge then charge will always reside only on outer surface of conductor.
  • Also Read:
  • Electric field is always perpendicular to conducting surface.
  • Electric lines of force never enter into conductors.
  • Electric field intensity near the conducting surface is given by formula.
  • When a conductor is grounded its potential becomes zero.
  • When an isolated conductor is grounded then its charge become zero.
  • When two conductors are connected there will be charge flow till their potential becomes equal.
  • As surface of conductor is equipotential therefore the Surface charge density  of conductor at that 1S point. of conductor is inversely proportional to the radius of curvature at that point.
  • Electric pressure: Electric pressure at that aur face of a conductor is given by formula.
Where σ is the local surface charge density.

    Thank you
